The Vampire's Assistant film has received mixed reviews. The Vampire's Assistant currently holds a 37% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a rating of 4.9 out of 10.
According to Metacritic, The Vampire's Assistant film holds a score of 43 out of 100, indicating "mixed or average reviews", based on 25 reviews.
On IMDB the response from viewers has been much more positive -- it currently has a score of 6.4 out of 10 based on more than 2500 responses.
On Darren Shan's messageboard, he listed 123 reviews (every review that he could find online up to October 23rd) which broke down into 55 positive reviews, 45 negative, and 23 neutral.
The Vampire's Assistant film opened in 2,754 theaters in the USA and made close to $14 million dollars, reaching number seven in the charts. The Vampire's Assistant has performed stronger in other countries, making €12.4 million dollars by the start of 2010, getting to number one in Ukraine, number two in Russia, nuber three in Portugal and number five in the UK.
The Vampire's Assistant movie is scheduled to open in many more countries between now and June 2010, and on DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK and USA in February, so there is still a chance that it will ultimately perform well and generate a sequel, despite its subdued opening in the USA.
